Professional Blog Step 3: Targeting Companies You Want To Work For

List of interests?  Check.  List of job skills?  Check.  Now for the final step before narrowing down your ten possible Professional Blog topics as you build your personal brand:  Deciding whom you want to work for!

The primary goal of your Passion Blog is to put you in direct contact with potential employers—you want them mind-boggled by your blog, tickled by your tweets, and pining for your Pins.  And you want to become known as one of their most enthusiastic followers.

So, how do you figure out whom to follow?  Simple.  Decide who you want to work for!

Are you dying to DJ?  Then maybe a radio station would be your pick.  Desperate to defend?  There are some lawyer firms out there for you.  Wild to write?  Then maybe a newspaper, magazine, or journal is the way for you to go. suggests you target at least 10 possible employers and recommends researching them through a company review website like  Key in possible job titles, skills, and interests in your area, and you’ll be well on your way to learning about the companies that could be a great fit for you.

Trolling through expired job listings on may also be of help.  Just because your dream job has already been taken, it doesn’t mean they’re not looking for people with similar backgrounds.  Identify potential employers even if they don’t currently have any Want Ads.  You never know:  with your new directive of actively participating in your potential employers’ social media campaigns, they might just end up creating a job FOR you.

Yep, you read that right, it’s happened before! A company will create a new job for the right person if they feel that it will be beneficial in the long run.

Once you’ve figured out the companies you’d like to work for, continue onto Step 4: narrowing down those blog topics!
